Terms of Use

These terms cover your use of the Ask It Log It app and its cloud service. “We” and “us” mean the app’s developer, shown as the seller on its App Store page. By using the app, you agree to these terms. Your license to use the app comes from Apple’s Licensed Application End User License Agreement; these terms add to it. Our Privacy Policy explains how the app handles your data.

1. Estimates, not advice

Ask It Log It helps you keep track of what you eat and drink. Its calories, nutrients and water amounts are estimates: from a public nutrition database (USDA FoodData Central), from AI on your iPhone and, if you allow it, from Claude. Estimates can be wrong, sometimes by a lot, and AI can misunderstand what you said or what’s in a photo. Check anything that matters to you.

The app isn’t medical, nutritional or dietary advice, and it isn’t meant to diagnose, treat or prevent any condition. Talk to a doctor or a registered dietitian before changing how you eat, especially if you’re pregnant, have diabetes, kidney disease or another medical condition, or have a history of disordered eating. Don’t rely on the app to spot allergens or ingredients.

2. Cloud lookups

Cloud lookups are optional. They send what you describe or photograph to Claude, as the Privacy Policy explains, and only after you allow them. They come with limits: 3 a day for free, and 60 a day with Ask It Log It Pro. Each device also has a monthly allowance that keeps the service affordable; once it’s used, lookups may switch to a faster, lower-cost model, and past a higher limit they pause until the first of the next month. We may change these limits, and the service may sometimes be unavailable. The rest of the app keeps working without it.

Use cloud lookups for food and drink. Don’t send photos of people, or anything you don’t have the right to share.

3. Ask It Log It Pro

• Ask It Log It Pro is an auto-renewing subscription, monthly or yearly, sold through the App Store. The app shows the price and what’s included before you buy.
• Payment is charged to your Apple Account when you confirm the purchase.
• Your subscription renews automatically unless you turn off auto-renew at least 24 hours before the end of the current period. Your account is charged for the renewal within 24 hours before the current period ends.
• To manage or cancel, open the Settings app, tap your name, then Subscriptions, or use Manage subscription in the app’s Settings. Canceling stops the next renewal; Pro stays on until the end of the period you’ve paid for.
• The yearly plan may start with a free trial. If you don’t cancel at least 24 hours before the trial ends, the subscription begins and you’re charged. If you buy a subscription during a free trial, any unused part of the trial ends.
• Refunds are handled by Apple under its policies, at reportaproblem.apple.com.
• If we change the price, Apple tells you beforehand and, where required, asks you to agree before the new price applies.
• Pro gives you more cloud lookups. It doesn’t make estimates exact.

4. Fair use

Please don’t:

• try to get around lookup limits, App Attest or the app’s other protections;
• use the cloud service with anything other than the app, or copy, scrape or reverse engineer it, except where the law allows;
• overload or disrupt the service; or
• use the app to break the law or anyone’s rights.

We may limit or stop cloud access for an install that does.

5. Your content

Your food log is yours and stays on your iPhone. When you use a cloud lookup, you let us send what you submitted to our AI provider to produce the estimate, as the Privacy Policy describes. We don’t claim ownership of it.

6. Ours and others’

The app, its design and the Ask It Log It name belong to us. The nutrition data comes from USDA FoodData Central, which is in the public domain. The Work Sans typeface is used under the SIL Open Font License. Claude is a trademark of Anthropic. Apple, iPhone, Apple Intelligence and App Store are trademarks of Apple Inc.

7. No warranties

The app and the cloud service are provided “as is” and “as available”. To the fullest extent the law allows, we disclaim all warranties, express or implied, including accuracy, merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose and non-infringement.

8. Limits on liability

To the fullest extent the law allows, we aren’t liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages, or for loss or harm that comes from relying on the app’s estimates. Our total liability for any claim is limited to the greater of what you paid for Ask It Log It Pro in the 12 months before the claim and US$50. Some places don’t allow these limits, so they may not apply to you. Nothing in these terms limits rights that the law says can’t be limited.

9. Changes and ending

We may update the app and these terms. If we make significant changes, we’ll update the date at the top and tell you in the app. You can stop using the app at any time by deleting it, and cancel Pro in your Apple Account’s Subscriptions. We may stop offering the cloud service or the app; if we do, we’ll give notice where we can, and Apple handles any refund you’re due.

10. Apple

These terms are between you and us, not Apple. Apple isn’t responsible for the app or its content, has no obligation to provide maintenance or support for it, and isn’t responsible for any claims about it, including product liability, legal or regulatory compliance, consumer protection or intellectual property claims. If the app fails to conform to a warranty that applies, you can notify Apple, and Apple will refund the purchase price, if any; Apple has no other warranty obligation. Apple and its subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of these terms and may enforce them against you. You confirm that you aren’t in a country subject to a U.S. government embargo, and aren’t on a U.S. government list of prohibited or restricted parties.

11. Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Utah, United States, without regard to conflict-of-law rules, except where the law where you live requires otherwise. Disputes will be handled in the state or federal courts in Salt Lake County, Utah, unless the law where you live lets you bring them elsewhere.
